Modlin airport blocked by ecologists

The future of Modlin airport, which is projected to serve Warsaw, remains uncertain after ecologists actions. An organization fighting to save birds (OTOP) appealed about the ruling of development, and the regional authorities were forced to review the case again.

Piotr Okienczyc, CEO of airport company in Modlin, claims that ecologists appeal any decision there is made about the airport. "We are not building the airport from the scratch. Modlin airport had been operating as a military airfield through many years, now there are small civilian planes landing. After modernization the airport will not threat the environment," he said.

The construction is expected to start next year. However, if the procedures will be too long, there is hardly a chance for the Modlin airport to be ready for Euro 2012.
